The Newspaper Club wants to share their Louisville and Washington, D.C. field trip experiences.  I know I had a blast in D.C.!  I hope you enjoy hearing from my students!

The Experience
Jade Ward

My experience in Washington D.C was amazing. We got to see the Washington monument, Martin Luther King J.R memorial the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, all the Smithsonian museums, took a boat cruise to Mt. Vernon to see George Washington’s mansion and saw the slave quarters, Vietnam memorial. The Martin Luther King Jr. memorial is important because he stood up for civil rights. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is important because it honors people who lost their lives for our country and us. My favorite thing there was all the Smithsonian museums. Some requirements are to use your manners and follow the Simmons expectations all year long.

Hello! I am going to tell you a little about my experience in Washington D.C. The one thing I will remember about D.C. is the Wreath lying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. My experience at Washington is very exciting, I hope you enjoy. The bus ride to Manassas, VA felt very long, I waited and waited, but still 5 hours left! When we finally arrived in Manassas, we checked into our hotel room at Holiday Inn Express. In the morning, we started our activities! Some things we did in Washington was, A cruise to Mount Vernon, which I got to take a house tour of George Washington’s home, and explore what things looked like in the 1700’s. Other things we got to do in Washington was to Visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, and visit the Lincoln Memorial, which had SO many stairs, and much more! My favorite part of the trip was seeing the Washington Monument, I have always dreamed of seeing it and my dream came true!!! Some requirements needed to go on this trip are:

·     Get exceptional grades
·     Have responsibility
·     Follow Simmons Expectations,

Be Respectful, Responsible, Do my Best at all Times.

Are We There Yet?

What was it like to go to D.C.? It was awesome going to D.C.  I got to carry the wreath at Arlington at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. My escort was tall and scary and I had to walk through the rain. We also saw George Washington’s home, Mt. Vernon and we saw where the slaves slept and where they were buried. We also where George Washington and his wife were buried. We saw inside his house/mansion. We also went to the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and the WW2 Memorial. That is what it was like going to D.C.

Washington D.C.

Hey guys! I’m going to tell you what the 5th graders did in D.C. Some things we did in D.C. are: we saw and toured the Capitol. In the capitol you get to sit in the seats, where the Representatives vote, which is called The Floor of The House. We also went to go see the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier. If you stand there for an hour, or near the next hour, you can see the guard switch places with another guard. Make sure you are totally silent there. We also got to ride a boat to MT. Vernon. Anyways I hope you 4th graders are looking forward to your D.C. trips.
